SPILLO is celebrating the 101st Targa Florio race with a limited and numbered watch series.

Genoa, Italy, March 29th 2017

“Perpetuate my creation, because I created it to defy Time” said Vincenzo Florio.

The Targa Florio’s tradition and myth remain true to its creator’s philosophy, and 2017 will bring the 101st edition of the world’s oldest motor race!

The Targa Florio has been part of the International and World Championships for both sports cars and grand tourers, taking its place in the history of motor sports. On the Targa Florio’s roads, important drivers have raced and won behind the wheel of legendary automobiles, such as Tazio Nuvolari (AlfaRomeo 8C-2300), Achille Varzi (AlfaRomeo B/P3), Luigi Villoresi (Maserati 6CM), Stirling Moss (Mercedes 300slr), Juan Manuel Fangio (Mercedes 300slr), Nino Vaccarella (Ferrari 275 P2 and AlfaRomeo T33/3), Lorenzo Bandini (Ferrari 275 P2), Vic Elford (Porsche 907), Arturo Merzario and Sandro Munari (Ferrari 312 PB), and Gérard Larrousse (Lancia Stratos).

SPILLO (meaning “jet needle” in Italian) gets its name from an essential carburetor part. Spillo’s creator and founder is a passionate motorsports enthusiast; after racing with a specifically modified Piaggio “Vespa” in the 2011 Pharoh’s Rally and the 2013 Transanatolia Rally, he decided to create a brand of watches that could bring the world of motorsports to the wrists of enthusiasts the world over.

SPILLO, which is already in Japan, Singapore and the Arab Emirates, is proud to present the “P4 Targa Florio”, a watch that celebrates the famous motor race with a limited and numbered series of 320 pieces. By bringing a legend of motor racing to the wrists of true aficionados, SPILLO wishes to perpetuate the passion of the man who founded this race in 1906 and to honor the drivers and automobiles that wrote the history of the TARGA FLORIO, a competition that continues to excite after 101 years.

Spillo’s 2017 collection presents two timepieces called "SpeedDemon" and "Outlaw", whose design and materials are inspired by motor components. For example, the cases are modelled on the shape of the Carter clutch motor; the crown has a screw- head like a carburetor’s needle. The bezel is screwed to the case with four torx screws (usually used in the machine design of sports cars and motorcycles), between them is a gasket that is inspired by the gasket between the motor’s head and the cylinder.

SPILLO will have a stand at the Targa Florio Village in piazza Verdi in Palermo from April 20th to April 23rd. Targa Florio competitors and enthusiasts will have an opportunity the P4 Targa Florio unveiled for the first time. They will be able to preorder this watch, made in a limited and numbered series of 320 pieces, at a special price (instead of its catalog price of 1.500,00 €).
